There is a new USCIS policy update pertaining primarily to Green Cards/Lawful Permanent Residency and its impacts primarily on Humanitarian Parolees. This does not mean people are losing status right now. The most important thing is keeping paperwork accurate and responding to USCIS on time.

Refugees, your green card process is still protected by law. It’s important to stay on top of paperwork and deadlines, but there is no reason to panic.

For Asylees

  • You can still apply for your green card after 1 year.

  • USCIS may review cases more carefully.

  • Accuracy and consistency in your paperwork are very important.

  • IMPORTANT: Prepare carefully, respond to USCIS, and consider speaking to an attorney.

For Humanitarian Parolees

  • Parole is considered temporary.

  • It usually does not lead to a green card by itself.

  • It is important to explore long-term legal options as early as possible.

  • VERY IMPORTANT: Do not wait, get legal support now.
