Newcomer Welcomes

For 25 years, community members have welcomed newcomers to the valley with open minds and hearts.

Every Saturday, our staff and dedicated community volunteers visit the homes of newly arrived refugees across Arizona. Together, we deliver essential household items such as bedding for restful nights, cleaning supplies for healthy homes, toys and learning tools for young children and students, and computers and TVs that support English learning, schoolwork, and job searches. All of these items help ease the burden of resettlement.

But these visits are about so much more than supplies.

They are personal, human moments of connection. A knock on the door that says, “You belong here.” A shared smile, a conversation, a bridge built between new neighbors and the community welcoming them in.

This tradition began in 2001 with a single home visit to a newly arrived refugee family. That simple act of kindness became the heart of our mission, and it remains that way to this day.

Tucson Welcomes

To extend our welcomes to even more newcomers, we have expanded our visits to the city of Tucson. Once a month on Saturdays, our staff and volunteers travel to Tucson to visit refugee families in their homes. These visits provide the same essential household items, resources, and personal connection that have defined our program for 25 years. Families in Tucson receive the same warm, respectful welcome that has long been a hallmark of our work. Through this expansion, we are building new community bridges while staying true to the mission that began more than two decades ago.

Now More Than Ever

There are many ways to join the thousands of community members who have helped WTAP make a difference. Volunteer to participate directly in home visits alongside our staff, helping to welcome families in person. You can also donate essential items that refugees need to build stable, healthy homes. Financial contributions are equally vital, allowing us to purchase needed items, fill critical gaps when donations fall short, and respond quickly to ensure every family receives what they need.
